City Break Holidays Hit Hardest by Financial Downturn
Money is tight for many of us and so extra expenses like holidays are unfortunately among the first things to get the chop in hope of saving money this year. It's unfortunate but when you consider that the other daily expenses like food and home services like TV bills and heating there isn't much room for compromise.
It is estimated that the number of holidays taken by British tourists will fall by a fifth this year which is a pretty steep drop for Brits who have in general been a fairly far flung bunch with all the cheap flight companies who have been able to cater to every demand for the past few years.
These companies are also finding themselves in a bit of financial trouble and many holiday and flights companies have shut down as a result, potentially leaving thousands of tourists without their holidays or worse, stranded in another country. The companies that were able to remain in business have had to cut back on the number of flights or in some cases the destinations that they fly to as well.
The traditional holiday in the sun on a beach is still in high demand and accounts for a large percentage of British holiday destinations, the majority of cut backs are falling on the city break holidays, the number of bookings for European city breaks has fallen considerably. As well as the weekend break within the UK. It seems people are more prepared to stay at home than spend money and risk the bank holidays traffic on motorways especially since money is tight.
The cheap flight companies even have to drop certain city break destinations due to there not being sufficient demand to justify the number of flights they have offered in the past. These flights are now being replaced with either extra or new routes to holiday resort destinations that have the most demand.
The cheaper deals that many people hold out for with last minute holidays are still in high demand and so there may be an entire army of tourists holding out for late bookings to some tourist hotspots but with the financial climate you may be running a risk of there not being any cheap late deals when you want to go away.
So essentially like almost all aspects of daily life we now have to cut back and stop spending as much as we have in the past, holidays are such big expenses for families and having more than one a year is looking more like a thing of the past for many of them. Despite the cutbacks many families are still able to afford the one or two weeks on a sunny beach which is what is most important after all!
