Exchange Rate Sees a Boom in British Holidays
Every year many families look forward to a week or two in the sun, it's long been a tradition for many families going back many years. Typically going away in the summer whilst the kids are off school is the only time many families get to spend together for an extended period of time and so they make the most of it by going on holiday.
At least this used to be the tradition anyway, with financial problems rife amongst UK households many families no longer find the money to spend on far flung holidays to distant exotic locations. This has been made progressively worse with the failing strength of the pound against the Euro, the currency of many popular destinations.
Places like Greece, Spain and the Balearic Islands are becoming more and more pricey as Brits find their money doesn't stretch quite as far as it used to. This means that they have less to spend on meals and activities when they're away and can result in a pretty lacklustre holiday by many people's standards.
But how can holidaymakers make the most of the time off? Well holidays in Britain are set to increase this year as more families wake up to the realisation that holidays in spain are going to cost twice as much than a holiday in Britain. British tourism officials have noted that in recent years we have had spells of excellent weather rivalling Mediterranean destinations especially during July and August.
Many places in Britain are excellent holiday locations when the weather is good such as Cornwall or Devon where there are a lot of surfing hotspots that prove popular with families and young people especially. It seems like every year the newspapers will use a photo taken on these beaches to show how nice the weather is in summer, or at least when it's stopped raining for a few days!
The other alternative for families who are worried about spending whilst on their holidays is to consider all inclusive holidays instead. Many tourists are apprehensive about going all inclusive as in the past there have been horror stories about how the food is left out in the sun to fester and being of poor quality in general. Now though the food is of a decent standard after many holidaymakers had responded with less than flattering reviews over the years.
Many holidaymakers now say they barely have to leave their hotels with the food being of good standard and drinks flowing freely. Hotels are often clustered together in resorts which have various activities like jet skiing and Para-gliding for their hotels guests.
Whilst the price of holidays has no doubt gone up it's still possible to bag a good deal whether it's here in the UK or still going abroad, the advice many travel agents are giving is to book early to get the best prices on flights and hotels as the costs are likely to increase as the year and the financial situation wears on.
